A Delegate at the 51st International Forestry Students’ Symposium (IFSS)

In 2023, IFSA LC UNHAS (International Forestry Students’ Association Local Committee Universitas Hasanuddin) is proud to send a delegate to participate in the 51st International Forestry Students’ Symposium (IFSS) held in Germany. Our Friend Wening Ila Idzatilangi , is proud to participate and document her journey and insights from IFSS . IFSS is the largest IFSA annual meeting that serves as a platform of ininspiration and solidarity for 130 forestry students from around the world to share experiences and knowledge.

VISITING 7 CITIES IN GERMAN

The IFSA LC UNHAS delegate participated in a series of activities during IFSS which took place from August 16 to September 1, 2023. One of the highlights was the visit to 7 cities in Germany.

Delegates had the opportunity to learn from academics, business, government, IGO, NGO, and the Germany forest practitioners. The visit provided a deep insight into the sustainability of forestry in the country.

Contribution of IFSA LC UNHAS

This year , IFSA LC UNHAS actively participated in IFSS activities with several important roles:

1. Presenting a poster on “EUDR and the Shadow of Illegal Timber Trade in the German Forestry Sector

The delegation presented a poster discussing the impact of illegal timber trade in Germany and the efforts made to address the problem. The presentation was delivered at the Alte Forstakademie, Waldcampus HNE Eberswalde.

2. Presenting the GLF at the World cafe:

The delegation also participated in presenting the Global Landscapes Forum (GLF) at the “World Cafe ” event held in Bonn on August 28, 2023. This was an opportunity to share about conservation and sustainable development efforts related to global landscapes.

3. Presenting the IFSS 2025 Proposal:

The UNHAS LC IFSA delegation also presented a proposal to host IFSS 2025, showing commitment and active interest to continue the role in IFSA and facilitate future forestry student meetings.

Taking Notes of the Event :

During the IFSS, the IFSA LC UNHAS delegate ctook part as volunteer by taking notes of the ongoing activities and discussions for the final report of the event.

IFSS 2023 in Germany was a very valuable experience for IFSA LC UNHAS. Our delegate gained deep insight into global forestry issues and expanded their network with forestry students from various countries. We thank IFSA for creating an inclusive opportunity for forestry students like us through IFSS that embarking our journey as future professional forester in creating global resilience action towards the future of forestry sector.
