[Workshop Press Release] Revegetating the Exploited: Principles and Practice of Land Reclamation

 

The Workshop and Webinar Sub-Commission of International Forestry Students’ Association Local Committee Universitas Hasanuddin (IFSA LC UNHAS) held a workshop titled Revegetating the Exploited: Principles and Practices of Land Reclamation at the Faculty of Forestry Universitas Hasanuddin, Makassar on 30 August 2024. The event was held in the Forest Faculty GA-102 room and attended by 30 forestry faculty students. The speakers came from South Sulawesi Regional Mining Inspector Director General of Minerals and Quarries Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Watershed Management Agency under the Ministry of Forestry and Environment of Indonesia, and a representative from IFSA LC UNHAS as the future professional forester.

The meeting is being opened by the IFSA LC UNHAS’ President, Diah Muflihah. She welcomes the participants and the speakers as well. Diah sent her regards to the people in the room for being able to attend the 2nd workshop held by IFSA LC UNHAS under the Workshop and Webinar Sub-Commission.

The meeting was continued by the presentation from Lucky Valentino, S.Hut as the IFSA LC UNHAS representative and the future professional forester, which explains how the youth as the next generation of forester could participate regarding the matter of land reclamation. The presentation continued by the second presenter from the South Sulawesi Regional Mining Inspector Director General of Minerals and Quarries Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, Mr. Didik Eka Saputra, ST., who presented the law of land reclamation and its mechanism during the land reclamation in the exploited area. He briefly explains the cases that happened during the process of revegetating the area and how it intertwined with the law.

Mrs. Dr. Selly Oktashariany Ayub, S.Hut, MP as the representative of Watershed Management Agency under the Ministry of Forestry and Environment of Indonesia explained the importance of the vegetation and why it has to be restored. She added the importance of choosing the right types of vegetation during the reclamation and revegetation in accordance with the social state of the community. The workshop talks about different aspects during the exploited land reclamation and is hoped to bring a positive impact for the participants as the future professional forester.
